What is the IP protection level of the motor?

Date:2024-04-18 Author:XINDA MOTOR
In industrial production, especially electronic and electrical products that can be used outdoors, equipment will have different levels of dustproof and waterproof requirements. The shell protection level (IP code/dustproof and waterproof) of automated instrumentation equipment is an important indicator to ensure the normal operation of the equipment and the safety and reliability of the product. Then, when selecting and using instrument products, you must pay special attention to the protection level of the instrument. This is of great significance for correct product selection, product installation and use. Below, I will give you a detailed introduction to the relevant knowledge of IP protection level.
What is the IP protection level?

To define the shell sealing performance of electrical equipment such as inkjet printer equipment, the EN60529 standard is commonly used internationally. The different categories of protection levels that this standard will quantify mainly include protection against the intrusion of solid foreign objects into the housing (including tools, fingers or dust, etc.) and protection against water (water entering the housing through condensation, flushing, immersion, etc., causing harm to the equipment) Influence).
The two digits after the IP indicate the protection strength of the equipment shell against solid foreign objects and water intrusion. The first number indicates the level of dustproofing and preventing the intrusion of foreign objects by the electrical equipment. The second number indicates the level of protection of the equipment against moisture and water intrusion. The degree of sealing, the larger the number, the higher the protection level.
For example: protection level IP54 , IP is the marking letter, the number 5 is the first marking number, 4 is the second marking number. The first marking number indicates the level of contact protection and foreign object protection, and the second marking number indicates the level of waterproof protection.
The protection levels represented by the two marked numbers are as follows:

In addition, when the level of protection requirements is higher than the level indicated by the above characteristic numbers, the extended range will be expressed by adding additional letters after the first 2 digits, and it will also need to meet the respective requirements of these additional letters.

Detailed classification of IP waterproof levels

The following waterproof grade reference standards are IEC60529, GB4208, GB/T10485-2007, DIN40050-9, ISO20653, ISO16750 and other international applicable standards:
1. scope
The waterproof test includes the second characteristic number from 1 to 8, that is, the protection level code is IPX1 to IPX8 .
2. Various levels of waterproof test content

Sample placement: Place the sample on a rotating sample stage at 1r/min according to its normal working position. The distance from the top of the sample to the dripping port shall not be greater than 200mm.
Test conditions: The dripping amount is 1.0+0.5mm/min; test duration: 10min
(2)IPX2
Method name: Tilt 15° drip test
Test equipment: dripping test device and its test method
Sample placement: Make one side of the sample form an angle of 15° with the vertical line, and the distance from the top of the sample to the drip port is no more than 200mm. After each test on one side, change to another side for a total of four times.
Test conditions: dripping volume is 3.0+0.5mm/min; test duration: 4×2.5min, 10min in total
3)IPX3
Method name: Rain test
a. Oscillating tube water spray test
Test equipment: swing tube type water splash test
Sample placement: Select a swing tube with an appropriate radius so that the height of the sample table is at the diameter of the swing tube. Place the sample on the sample stage so that the distance from the top to the sample water nozzle is no more than 200mm and the sample stage does not rotate.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated based on the number of water spray holes in the swing pipe, and each hole is 0.07 L/min. When water is sprayed, the water spray holes in the 60° arc segments on both sides of the midpoint of the swing tube are sprayed towards the sample. The tested sample is placed in the center of the semicircle of the pendulum tube. The swing tube swings 60° on both sides of the vertical line, totaling 120°. Each swing (2×120°) takes about 4 seconds.
Test pressure: 400kPa; Test time: continuous water spraying for 10 minutes; the sample rotates 90° after 5 minutes of testing
b. Sprinkler type water test
Test equipment: handheld water splash test device,
Sample placement: Make the parallel distance from the top of the test to the water nozzle of the handheld nozzle between 300mm and 500mm
Test conditions: A baffle with a counterweight should be installed during the test, and the water flow rate is 10L/min.
Test time: Calculated based on the surface area of the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area), minimum 5 minutes.
(4)IPX4
Method name: splash water test;
a. Oscillating tube splash test
Test equipment and sample placement: Select a swing tube with an appropriate radius so that the height of the sample table is at the diameter of the swing tube. Place the sample on the sample table so that the distance from the top to the sample water nozzle is no more than 200mm. The sample table Does not rotate.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated based on the number of spray holes in the swing pipe, each hole is 0.07L/min; the water spray area is the water spray from the spray holes in the 90° arc sections on both sides of the midpoint of the swing pipe to the sample. The tested sample is placed in the center of the semicircle of the pendulum tube. The swing tube swings 180° on both sides of the vertical line, for a total of about 360°. Each swing (2×360°) takes about 12 seconds.
Test time: The same as the above paragraph (3) IPX3 paragraph a (i.e. 10 minutes).
b. Nozzle splash test
Test equipment: handheld water splash test device,
Specimen placement: The baffle with a counterweight installed on the equipment should be removed so that the parallel distance from the top of the test to the water outlet of the handheld nozzle is between 300mm and 500mm.
Test conditions: A baffle with a counterweight should be installed during the test, and the water flow rate is 10L/min.
Test time: calculated based on the surface area of the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area) and at least 5 minutes.
(5)IPX4K
Test name: Pressurized swing tube rain test
Test equipment: pendulum tube rain test

Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated based on the number of water spray holes in the swing pipe, and each hole is 0.6±0.5 L/min. The water spray area is the water spray hole in the 90° arc section on both sides of the midpoint of the swing tube, which is sprayed onto the sample. The tested sample is placed in the center of the semicircle of the pendulum tube. The swing tube swings 180° on both sides of the vertical line, for a total of about 360°.
