Is the motor better with a copper core or an aluminum core?

Date:2023-02-20 Author:XINDA MOTOR
Look at the motor nameplate and manual. The aluminum core motor will have an "L" or "A" letter on the model than the copper core motor, and the weight of the aluminum core motor of the same level is lighter than that of the copper core, and the volume will be a little larger.

If it is a counterfeit, you may not know it by looking at the surface. You can disassemble the motor and the wire cores have different colors. Note that there are also copper-clad aluminum, so if you look at the cut-off wire, if there is white inside, it is aluminum.

If it can be disassembled, then scratch the thread at an irrelevant place to have a look, and then stick it with high-temperature tape after reading it. If it cannot be disassembled, compare the coil resistance, the resistance of the aluminum core is a little larger than that of the copper core.
1. The conductivity of copper is better than that of aluminum
The current carrying capacity of copper wire is 6 amps per square meter, and that of aluminum wire is 5 amps, so aluminum wire motors tend to heat up after long-term operation. Of course, it is not a big problem to keep the shell temperature within 90 degrees. The overall performance is not as stable as copper wire motors. You get what you pay for.
The power of the aluminum core motor is much smaller than that of the copper core, and the carrying capacity is small, so it is easy to generate heat. Generally, the power of aluminum wire is about 20% smaller than that of copper wire.
2. Pure copper wire motor is of course more durable
Aluminum has a larger resistance than copper, and it generates higher heat during use, which can easily burn out the motor. Moreover, the welding of aluminum and copper cannot be naturally fused, and the connection point of the power line is also easy to cause burnout, so the service life of the general aluminum wire motor water pump is much lower than that of the pure copper wire motor water pump.
3. Pure copper wire motor saves more power
The resistance of circuit components is directly proportional to the heat generation, and the greater the resistance, the greater the heat generation.
4. The pure copper core motor has less noise
When the noise increases by 3 decibels on average, the energy of the noise will be doubled. Aluminum wire motors are about 7 decibels louder than copper wire motors, so aluminum wire motors are more than twice as noisy as copper wire motors. The noise of the pure copper wire motor water pump is only 58 decibels after testing.
5. Pure copper wire motor is relatively more durable
Because aluminum has a higher resistance than copper, it generates more heat during use, and it is easy to burn out the motor.
6. Resistivity of copper wire
For example, the resistivity of the copper wire of the vibration motor is 0.017, while the resistivity of the aluminum wire of the vibration motor is 0.028. The cross-sectional ratio of the copper wire to the aluminum wire is 0.79:1, and six square copper wires are roughly equivalent to ten square aluminum wires. .
The diameter of the aluminum wire will be thicker than that of the copper wire. The aluminum wire in the same stator slot will often not fit, and the current flow per unit area is also different. The copper wire can pass 5-8 amps of current per square millimeter, and the aluminum wire can Much less.
Seven, the quality of aluminum wire will be lighter
It is relatively cheaper, but the mechanical strength is poor. The place where the aluminum wire is connected to the wire end is easy to oxidize. After the wire end is oxidized, the temperature will rise, causing poor contact, and it is a frequent point of power failure or disconnection. , In addition, aluminum wire is not easy to weld, has low strength and low melting point, and is easy to oxidize, resulting in temperature rise and large loss.
